2006 Malbec, Dunnigan Hills
One of the traditional "Bordeaux varietals", Malbec has characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A midseason ripener, it can bring very deep color, ample tannin, and a particular plum-like flavor component to add complexity to claret blends.
This Malbec boasts aromas of tart plum with hints of black pepper, vanilla, and anise. As it opens up in your glass it exhibits hints of cumin and anise, even a little dill. Enjoy it with grilled vegetables such as green and red bell peppers and fennel. It has ample tannin and acid to last in the bottle for many years, at least through 2015.
