2005 Santa Barbara County Sangiovese blend
94% Sangiovese
4% Syrah
2% Cabernet Sauvignon
Sangiovese is best known as the base varietal used to produce Chianti. While Chianti wines are generally a light to medium-bodied wine (usually field blended with a white wine varietal), this Sangiovese blend is big and bold. The Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon add complexity and tannins to really round out this wine. The fruit for this wine was selected from small vineyards in Los Alamos and Santa Ynez, California where the microclimates are warm and dry and produce deep color and flavors.
This heavy-bodied blend has strong, ripe plum, cherry, and blackberry aromas followed by slight strawberry, vanilla, and buttery scents. It has an elegant, silky mouth feel bursting with strong blackberry jam flavors followed by butter and vanilla on the finish. An over-the-top, "fruit bomb", you can drink it alone or paired with pasta or just about any meat dish. Also makes for a wonderful after dinner drink instead of a traditional dessert! Yes, it's that rich! Enjoy now through 2009.
